<image:title>Washington Hikes - EIGHTMILE LAKE TRAIL - The trail is out and back featuring two lakes, great views, and wild flowers. It’s about 6.3 miles to the main lake, and you can make this longer if you choose to walk around it (we did 7 miles.) The elevation gain is about 1400 ft, but it’s steady aside from the first mile, which is fairly steep, and one last push at the end with less than 10 minutes to hit the top of the lake.</image:title>

<image:title>Washington Hikes - EMMONS MORAINE TRAIL - The trail was very crowded since it has a great view with a very easy walk/hike. Make sure to bring a mask and try your best to maintain 6ft of distance between you and other hikers. This trail also continues on to a glacier hike, which is for people that are experienced in glacier climbing and have the correct gear. You can read about it at the beginning of the trail.</image:title>

      <image:title>Washington Hikes - EMMONS MORAINE TRAIL</image:title>
<image:caption>The hike is very manageable with little elevation gain. The total elevation of the two trails was 600 ft. There were many families on the first part of this hike. You walk through the forest and pass a mini waterfall to reach a one mile marker. The trail then splits, right for additional campgrounds, left to hit the Emmons Moraine trail.</image:caption>

<image:title>Washington Hikes - EMMONS MORAINE TRAIL - Once you get on the Emmons Moraine trail, you see a fast moving river with a sturdy bridge you’ll cross over to continue. There is a quick rocky switchback you’ll walk up, and once you do you will say “oh wow!” All of a sudden you see bright blue water formed in a lake from the runoff of the glacier. You can walk down to the lake or curve a bit to the right to see a nice view of the top of Rainier.</image:title>

<image:caption>Thunder Knob Trail is an easy 3.5 mile hike with only 650ft of elevation gain. We stayed up late the night before and I wasn’t ready for any trail too aggressive. Thankfully, the trail is very family and dog friendly. The trail is located across the street from Colonial Creek Campgrounds with parking. It has great views all the way up of surrounding mountains. When you get to the top there are several view points of the lake to distance yourself from other groups. The trail took us very little time and is well maintained.</image:caption>

<image:title>Washington Hikes - Diablo Lake - Colonial Creek Campground is right before Diablo Lake Vista Point. For day use, there are picnic tables, a small rocky beach to sit out at, and a boat ramp which you can also use to put your Kayaks and Paddle Boards in. The water is freezing, but great to go out on especially with the views! Note: the water levels are effected by a dam so they are different every day. There are also several other hiking trails that go along the river, through wooded areas, and even some more experienced climbs. We walked Thunder Creek Trail that was 4 miles which also turns into some backpacking routes and longer trails. Some friends did 4th of July trail which is 10 miles so you can find a variety of trail lengths!</image:title>
<image:caption>If you want to go camping, make sure you reserve months in advance. During peak season, the spots fill up as soon as registration opens.</image:caption>

<image:title>OREGON ROAD TRIP - DAY 1 - Willamette Valley is wine country of Oregon and is only a two hour drive from Mount Hood. On the way, you drive through Oregon City which I’m sure you could find more activities to do. We also passed by several yummy looking Taco food trucks, but we didn’t stop so we could make it to Willamette Winery Vineyards before close. Its one of my favorite spots in the valley because of their amazing wines, great views, and fantastic service. We bought several bottles, their best known for their reds but you can form your own opinions on your favorites! Their outdoor patio was perfect for social distancing.</image:title>

<image:title>OREGON ROAD TRIP - DAY 1 - When we got to the top and the trees cleared, the fog was so thick we couldn’t even see the lake. The only reason we even knew the lake was there was because I tossed a few pebbles to see if there would be a splash. We knew visibility was a risk when we started but we were hoping for a clearing. Usually on a clear day you can see the lake and a great view of Mount Hood with the reflection in the water. Even though we couldn’t see anything, there was something beautiful in the stillness. We had some fun taking pictures and hiked our way back down. PSA: Since this trail had quite a bit of foot traffic, make sure you have a mask handy :)</image:title>

<image:title>OREGON ROAD TRIP - day 2 - Arriving to Smith Rock State Park feels like you’ve left the state of Oregon and landed in Arizona. The climate is hotter, drier, and you’ll notice really cool rock formations. The park has multiple trails for all experience levels. We started out doing the Rim Rock walk that goes 1 mile around the park to see the views from above. We then went into the canyon and did the 2.5 mile River Walk trail. Both are easy walks where you get great views of the canyon, river, wildflowers, and rock climbers. There are harder trails available, but given our time constraint, we enjoyed the 3.5 miles of easy walking. We still feel like we got the full experience. After our mini hikes we did the 1.5 hour drive to Painted Hills. There’s not much to see along this drive aside from Ochoco National Forest where you’ll go up and down mountain ranges until you hit Painted Hills.</image:title>

<image:title>OREGON ROAD TRIP - day 2 - When we got to Bend we did the first thing anyone should do, hit up the local taco joint. We decided to sample tacos from Sancho Taco Shop. Our favorites were the Carne Asada and the Chipotle Chicken, not to mention the chips and guac were delicious. Next stop, most important, we went to get beer from Deschutes Brewery. We got the Da Shootz Pilsner and Hazy IPA. Luckily, we had friends staying in Bend the same weekend and they let us crash at their cabin for the night. We sat in the dining room watching the sunset through massive windows overlooking the Deschutes river. It was the perfect ending to our day 2 adventures!</image:title>

      <image:title>About - Welcome!</image:title>
<image:caption>Hi! I’m Sam! Growing up, my parents always encouraged me to travel and try new things. I was born in California, had a short stint in Connecticut, and was raised in North Carolina. In college when I was applying to internships, I thought it would be fun to explore a new city. I ended up landing my dream internship in Seattle! (At the time I knew nothing about WA other than it was on the West Coast LOL.) I was offered a full time job afterwards and moved to Washington where I still reside! Working a M-F 9-5 made me take full advantage of my weekends. There is so much to do and see in the PNW. I use my weekends/long weekends to explore new cities, go on hikes, and visit friends and family. My mission is to inspire you to explore new places, and get out there and try new things. Thank you for stopping by and I hope you enjoy!</image:caption>
